Sonoko Nishio, B. Mus Hon. (Composition)
Born in Osaka Japan, Sonoko moved to Singapore with her family at the
age of 5 and started to learn violin shortly after. Around 10 years old
Sonoko started to write her own songs as a hobby. During school she
participated in various ensembles such as string ensembles, strings
quartet, orchestra and choirs as well as solo concerts at the United
World College of South East Asia. She then moved to Melbourne to study
music and later Music Composition at Melbourne University under Stuart
Greenbaum and Brenton Broadstock. She was awarded the Catherine Grace
Mcwilliam Prize in her final year and graduated with Honours in 2005.
Currently she works as a School Administrator, Violin Teacher and
Salesperson
at a Violin
Specialist shop in Melbourne and enjoys writing and playing music in
her free time.
